Results from June 24th are Posted
Now Playing: the usual

Ah the picture.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

You're welcome.

We have 3 weeks left in the first half, including the Round Robin championship week.  The top 4 spots are separated by only 13 points.

Some random notes from last week...

  • The church league is sloooowwww. This isn't really news, but they outdid themselves and deserved special mention, particularly for their efforts on the front 9.
  • Our newest team of Matt and Jason now have handicaps.
  • Only one par 3 green was hit!  That just means more money going toward the Outing.
  • Steve swept the B flight skins on the back, blanking Ron, Marc, and Mike (Moffit).
  • Andy shot the ugliest 33 I've ever seen lol.  But still a 33.  So yeah.
  • Brett, Wes, and I are secretly planning to drain the water of the pond on number 2.
  • A few guys shot their lowest rounds of the year - Ron, Dan, Chris, and Todd (Sawyer).
  • Todd's lowest round of the year was unleashed on the new guys, despite 4-jacking number 10.
  • Lastly, there was a beer chick!!!!  I'm pretty sure a beer chick at Fox Den is the first sign of the Apocalypse.  You've been warned.

See you next week.

Schedule and Rule Change
Now Playing: Yet another rain-out

At least we got a handful of holes in last Wednesday.  If not for the lightning, most of us would have finished.

So what does this do to the schedule?

Well, since we started the round and got most of our matches in before the lightning ended it, we will slot last week's matchups later on in the year so we're not playing the same people again Wednesday.

UPDATE - I have updated the schedule.  I moved the 6/17 matchups to the last week before the First Half Championship week.  Unfortunately, with all the rainouts, the Outing won't be able to have any bearing on the overall league champ.  https://www.angelfire.com/netbirdie/schedule.png

***

RULE CHANGE - we are instituting the maximum points clause for fully absent teams immediately.  If neither team member or a sub shows up for a week (leaving the opposing team with no one to play), the maximum points the absent team can win will be 17.  If they get a bad draw, they could win less.

***

PS - Please welcome our newest team to the league.  Matt and Jason started last week, taking over for the Kovacs.

Morning wet, afternoon dry?
Now Playing: weather forecast

It actually looks like it will clear up this afternoon.  Scattered thunderstorms in the evening.  Will we get rained out or not?  That is the question.

If it's still wet this afternoon, I will try and post an update before 4:00.

weather.com has a new TruePoint forecast that is supposedly accurate down to a 1 sq mi region (limited to looking ahead 5 hours).

Here is Fox Den:

June 10th Results Are Posted
Now Playing: the usual

The results from Wednesday June 10 are posted.

What is the significance of the picture on the left?  First off, it's just funny.  Secondly, we are at the halfway point for the 1st half so still plenty of time for teams to make a run for the 1st half championship and the big trophy, which in our case is not phallic!  ... it's just cash :)

We had perfect attendance this week, including a sub for the drop-out team.  Excellent.

Mike Miller and Jason Tomci extended their 1st place lead on Wednesday with a 30-12 win posting their best scores to date and a team net of 68 in the win.  They have won every one of their matches this year.  Can the Todds, currently in 2nd place, recover from their train wreck on Wednesday and slow them down next week?

Fred dropped bookend birdies (#10 and #18) on Andy, but Andy got the last laugh taking 14 of the 20 points.

Another important match next week pits the 4th place team (Brian/Mike) vs the 5th place team (Chris/Joe).  With 4 of the top 5 teams playing each other, it might be an opportunity for some other teams to leapfrog up the rankings.  See you all Wednesday.

Rule change ideas for 2nd half
Now Playing: updates

We are considering modifying the rules for the second half to change the current policy for matches with absent teams.

Currently, a random drawing is done after the round and it's luck of the draw for both the absent team (neither team member shows) and the team that played.  Many leagues give absent teams a set number of points or cap the maximum points an absent team can earn (say 80% of half the points, 17 for us).

Also, instead of drawing random players in the case of an absent team, some leagues do a ghost team.  The ghost team shoots some predetermined net score - like net 39 say.  For example, if one of the missing players is a 5 handicap, he shoots a 44.  His scores are bogeys on the 8 toughest handicap holes and a par on the easiest hole.  Using this method, the team that is playing the absent team knows what it has to do to get points so it at least gives them a match.

We'll throw around some ideas and try and come up with the best solution for everyone.

June 3rd Forecast: Wednesday
Now Playing: It's raining. Translation: it's Wednesday.

The weather almost delivered the league another kick square in the balls.

** UPDATE - We were not rained out.  In fact, the rain stopped and it turned out to be a pretty decent night to golf. **

PS - the Outing polls are pretty much split right down the middle as far as Saturday vs Sunday and August vs September.  The consensus for course selection is a good balance of course and price with an emphasis on making it a good course.

League Outing polls
Now Playing: Make your vote count

I'm exploring Outing options and have some questions.  I'm thinking it will either be in mid-late August before football season gets under way or in mid-September after the league season is over.

The advantage of mid-September is we can do a true League Championship with the 2 half League Champions battling it out.  However, many of us are football fans and 9/20 is the only Sunday option with a  4:15 Browns game.  As for Saturdays, many of OSU's game times are TBD.  Oh, and for Andy... all the PSU games are home games for the September dates.  They only have 4 away games. lol

Week 3 Results are in
Now Playing: the usual

The week 3 results have been posted (see the links on the left).  The 4 teams that administered the biggest week 3 beatdowns are in 1st - 4th places.  Todd L and Steve L took advantage of the 2 on 1 matchups by posting great low nets and taking a boatload of points.

CORRECTION (made 5/27 3:25pm) - Chris Seal won low net on the front with a net 33, not Todd Liggett with a net 34.  Sorry about that.

Still owe the league dues according to my notes:

  • Chris Seal
  • Mike Miller (1/2)

Still need an email address:

  • Brett Thorson

Week 2 results are in
Now Playing: standings, league fees, and baby pics

The week 2 results have been posted (see the links on the left).  You might have guessed why there was a delay in posting them... our little baby girl was born on Thursday, May 14 at 9:16 am.  She was 5 lbs 8 oz and 18 inches long. :)

Here are some pictures of Finley Christine: https://netbirdie.angelfire.com/finley

Isn't she adorable!  :)

See you guys Wednesday.

Rain again, but not rained out!
Now Playing: you guys suffered through rain, I suffered through a false alarm

Congratulations to you guys on finishing a rain-soaked league night.  My hats off to you all.  We had full attendance with the exception of one team and me.  That is great.  As for the Kovacs... they showed up during the practice week so not sure what's going on there.

As for me... I don't know if Andy mentioned it, but my wife and I were at the hospital thinking she was ready to give birth to our first (a baby girl).  Well, the only reason we went is because she had a scheduled appointment and the doctor said she was dilated and going to give birth today.  The doctor said to go home, pack your bags, and get to the hospital.  The doctor went so far as to say if she had the baby before 5pm, her doctor would be Dr. Drake, if after 5pm, she was the doctor on call...  In the end... not so much.  We got discharged about 20 minutes too late to make it to Fox Den by the last tee time.  Thanks Doc.  I'll bill you for losing 1/2 day vacation and missing golf.  :(

I just talked to Andy and he said you guys all knew who you were playing and where.  I love that.  Sorry if you didn't have your handicaps to know about strokes.  I think we have fixed that so Andy can bring it up on his phone if needed.

I'll post the results tomorrow morning and send another email (barring another trip to the hospital!).

Lastly... for Team Brown Stem suffering a royal beat-down by The Todds, I blame..... our doctor.... again.... haha
