Hole-in-one... fail...

It's in the hole!  It's in the hole!  Tee shot on #8 with a 4-wood.  It's the tree right next to the sand trap on the right side of the fairway.

Winter News!
Now Playing: League Expanding to 40!

Hi guys,

I have some news and some topics for discussion.

  • Our tee times have officially moved up one time slot on each side in order to accommodate 40 players!  So all the changes and additions I've heard about should be okay (I think).  I have not added the new guys yet to this email list yet.
    • If you are not going to play this year, please let me know ASAP.
  • I need a volunteer to be League Treasurer (handles money, does weekly payouts, and gets $37.50 for the trouble)
  • Fox Den has two payment options.
    • Pay as you go (as we've always done) will be $15 to walk and $20 to ride I am told.
    • Prepay option - play is reserved 4/10 - 10/10 for $270 up front and $5 per week to ride.
    • Break-even point is playing 18 weeks.
    • Whole league must go one way or the other.
  • League Rules...
    • Phil has asked for some rules clarifications regarding lost balls, unplayable lies, and the line of flight rule.
    • I am open to opinions - we can just do like USGA or do some local rules or whatever.
    • The goal will be to firm up the confusion regarding these rules for the league.

Stay warm!

Jay

2012 Net Birdie League Outing
  • Mayfair Country Club
  • Saturday, September 8
  • 8:00 AM Shotgun start
  • $35 each paid to Mayfair covers breakfast, lunch, greens fees, and cart

Format is 18 holes of 2-man Modified Stableford Better Ball (play your own ball and count the better score of the 2).   This is a handicapped event where you get strokes according to your handicap.

Scores for stableford:

Net double bogey or worse -3
Net bogey -1
Net par 0
Net birdie 2
Net eagle 5
Net double eagle 8

Here are the pairings and USGA Indexes of everyone in the outing.  Pairings were set based on requests and the few groups where someone didn't submit a request were just randomly thrown together.  Please try and load up in a cart labeled with your starting hole so we can get out there without a hitch.

Example Scorecard:

Outing Payouts:

And of course, year-end stat sheets for all! lol  ... in color BOOYEAH!

2012 Outing Details

Outing details are below (no one raised any issues with the dates and there weren't really any viable alternatives anyway so we're rolling with it):

  • Saturday, September 8
  • Mayfair Country Club in Green
  • 8 AM Shotgun start
  • Price: $35 includes 18 riding, breakfast and lunch buffet

The Outing format is still open for discussion.  We did a 2-man shamble last time (scramble 9 and better ball 9) that seemed cool, but was complicated.  I'm open to suggestions.  My current estimate is that we will have $348 for payouts at the Outing.

2012 First Half is in the books
Now Playing: blog time OMG GTFO YFF

Well, the first half is over and the results are in. Congrats to Mike Howren and Cory Childers for winning the first half.  What an unbelievable last week move!

Notes from the week:

  • The inline picture uploader crapped the bed, so you'll find Holly Sonders pictures below. Enjoy.
  • The greens seemed to roll nicely today.
  • The foursome of Andy, Jason, Jay, and Justin all birdied #6 this week. That's crazy.
  • Mike and Cory used the second widest margin of victory (35-7) in four years to leapfrog from 5th to 1st. It all came down to the bye weeks to determine the winner. Will Mike and Nelson be receiving a kickback? ;)
  • Savy swept the pin shots on the front 9. That pre-round range work payed off!
  • Next week begins the second half. All points are reset to 0.
  • Outing date options will be posted before next Wednesday.
  • The first half Individual Player Stat Sheets will be handed out Wednesday.

See you Wednesday,

Jay

Welcome to the 2012 season!
Now Playing: Holy crap I'm pumped for golf

Say hello to Blair O'Neal, our random golf blog hottie to kick off the season.  She was on Big Break on the Golf Channel.  Hopefully all of you saw the Natalie Gulbis paint bikini in SI!  Those pictures would require a serious work warning so I won't post them here.

The year kicks off with matches on 4/18 and Virgil and Ron have the first bye.  However, they may show up so if you have a threesome, please offer to fit one in.  As for byes, if there is room you may play and collect points against a random draw instead of just getting your season average points (which changes weekly).

On to league news... I am currently in the process of updating my software for 17 teams and doing all the other league set up stuff...

The items updated with 2012 information include:

  • The Roster link - including contact info
  • The Overview link - details the league rules, payouts, etc
  • The Schedule link - 2012 schedule (changes with rainouts)
  • The first week's matchups (Next Week Matchups link)

 Not yet updated:

  • Standings and Payouts (will still show 2011 season end until after week 1)

We're ready to go.  Please remember the $100 league dues.

See you Wednesday,

Jay

2011 League Outing
  • Mayfair Country Club
  • Sunday, September 25
  • 8:00 AM Shotgun start
  • $35 each paid to Mayfair covers breakfast, lunch, greens fees, and cart

Format will be 9 holes of 2-man scramble on the front 9 and 9 holes of better ball (play your own ball and count the lower score of the 2) on the back 9.   This will be handicapped based on USGA index estimates from this season's scores.  Because this is an event that requires a partner, it's very important that I know who is not coming.

UPDATE: Looks like the list is complete and we are good to go.

Here are the pairings and USGA Indexes of everyone in the outing.  Pairings were set based on requests and the few groups where someone didn't submit a request were just randomly thrown together.  Please try and load up in a cart labeled with your starting hole so we can get out there without a hitch.

RULES: Front 9 Scramble, Back 9 Best Ball

The 2-man scramble half will use 35% of player A's handicap and 15% of player B's 9-hole USGA Course Index.  So if the team consists of a 4 and a 9 index, the team's handicap is 4*.35 + 9*.15 = 3.1 and we always round down, so this team would get 3 strokes.

The best ball (each player plays their own ball and lower net score is used) format uses 90% of each player's course index.  From there if Player A is a 3, he gets a stroke on the 3 toughest holes and if Player B is an 8, he gets 8 strokes on the 8 toughest holes.  If a player gets a 4 on a hole where he gets a stroke, his net score is 3.  Add up all the best net scores and that's the 9-hole team total.  Write your scores like normal and then the better net score below.

Example Scorecard:

Outing Payouts:

And of course, year-end stat sheets for all! lol  ... in color BOOYEAH!
